CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration Case File No. 22

Have you had the chance to check out the newest Case File

Well, here it is!

CSI is now offering a new twist to their challenges starting in January

(and they are giving  you a chance to try it out this month)!

You can draw your own inspiration from The Scene, however you'd like!

But don't worry - if you like the traditional clues, that will always be

an option too.  So your choice!

Here is the simpler new version  of Case File 242:

FOREVER BE MY ALWAYS - Single Page Layout (Dusty Attic DT - November Mood Board)

It's reveal day for me for my Dusty Attic DT!

This layout was inspired by this stunning rustic November mood board that 

is sure to inspire you too! Click HERE to visit the Dusty Attic blog to find out 

more about the challenge and to see lots and lots of DT inspiration!

The images have inspired me to use corrugated cardboard, many rusty colours

as well as many industrial elements amid flowers and stars.

On the corrugated background and on some of the chipboard, I used 

Dusty in Colour Capri and Sunburt Orange as well as the Rusting Powder.

I absolutely love using chipboard titles on my pages

and Dusty Attic has the best ones around, including this one!

I treated it with a combination of paint, embossing powder and metallic marker.

This piece called Industrial Barbed Stars is stunning!

It is absolutely a favorite of mine!

I used the Rusting Powder on the large Hinge.  You just add a little adhesive to your chipboard (I used spray adhesive) and sprinkle a little powder.  Then you spray the powder with some vinegar (yes! vinegar!) and let it stand to dry.  I then dabbed some acrylic paint to add to the effect.

YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE - 8 x 10 Canvas (Mixed Media & Art + Words & Paintery Challenges)

I got my hands a bit messy over the weekend creating this mixed media

canvas, playing along with 2 fabulous challenges.

I was inspired by the October challenge at Mixed Media & Art.

I was enthralled by it at very first sight... love the dramatic colors and the fantasy 

mystical feel.  I particularly liked the lantern image, and so I created my canvas 

with a light bulb theme with lots of sparkling gold accents.

Another great challenge that inspired my canvas and which seemed to go perfectly

with the challenge above is the October challenge from Words & Paintery...

shades of blue and gold with a quote that is reminiscent of mixed media. 

I began by priming my canvas with clear gesso, then I used several shades

of mist (navy blue, purple, blue, white) with lots of water to create a marble effect.

I did some stamping, stenciling and dabbed a bit of gold around the edge.

I treated the chipboard with mostly metallic markers as well as embossing powder.

The Perforated Mesh chippie is one of my newly favorite DA piece...

so versatile and perfect for mixed media creations!

The mixed media creative process for me is always a bit of a surprise for me

as I never know exactly how it will end up, but I am very pleased with this one!

SO MUCH AUTUMN GOODNESS - Single Page Layout (CSI DT - Major Case File 241)

Who's ready for a brand new case to solve from CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration!?

The Major Case File #241 was released a couple days ago, and this is how I solved it!

and let me tell you, they are a bunch of pretty fabulous detectives!

Let me explain how I solved this case!

The Scene in this case celebrates quite obviously the beautiful season of Autumn! 

A couple weeks I received a very generous package of gorgeous papers 

from Pion Design and in the pack was the Summer Falls into Autumn collection 

whose warm Fall-themed papers were just perfect for this scene.

In the Scheme offers a seasonal palette of very page gray, peanut brown,

light, buttery yellow, crimson and almost white gray.

From the Evidence list, I chose: 

some watercolor, leaves, woodgrain, white rub-on (ok, I cheated as I didn't have

 any white rub-ons so I used rub-on style stickers instead) and vellum.

For the Testimony, I simply decided to journal about my love of Fall.

Now let's take a look at some details:

I did some fussy cutting in the Pion Design patterned papers.

They come with gorgeous vintage image and journaling cards from which I cut out the adorable little girls, the autumn leaves and pumpkins as well as some tags.

I used thick vellum die-cuts in the form of leaves and a flower.

That lovely chipboard title is from none other than Dusty Attic!

BEAUTIFUL LIFE - Single Page Layout (More Than Words DT - November Main Challenge)

I am so excited to being able to share with you this layout

created for the brand new More Than Words Main Challenge

as I absolutely love the theme of this challenge

and am quite pleased with how my layout turned out!

My favourite season to spend OUTDOORS is the Fall. This couple selfie was taken in October a couple years ago during a beautiful stroll on our hometown ocean boardwalk in the crisp cool Autumn air. 

Along with many elements inspired by the outdoors like trees, branches nest and birds, I used a beautiful WOODGRAIN background to respect the creative challenge. If you look really closely, you can even see some woodgrain pattern on a badge used behind my little tree.

Now let's look at some details, starting with this close-up shot at my title which is a gorgeous Dusty Attic chipboard piece that I coloured with Copic markers, then created a teal ombre effect with embossing powder and different paints.

The cute little tree in the image above as well as the branch and bird nest below are also from Dusty Attic. I used a combination of many teal coloured embellishments found in my stash from brads to stickers to flowers right down to microbeads.

This woodgrain pattern from Prima's Amber Moon collection is absolutely gorgeous!

Of course, I need to finish with a close-up of the happy couple!
